A lot of equipment has been fitted as standard on the VW Golf Match Edition which should help bump up interest from potential drivers.
Alongside this newcomer is the Golf Match BlueMotion Edition with prices starting at £19,840 OTR.
The iconic VW Golf is now in its seventh incarnation and the new kit includes a winter pack and the firm’s Discover satnav system.
The new vehicles replace the current VW Golf Match and for a £100 premium, drivers can enjoy more than £1,100 of equipment.
The entry-level three door Match BlueMotion Edition has a 1.0 litre engine that produces 115 PS and when coupled to the six speed manual gearbox, it will return 66 mpg while having emissions of 99g/km. That’s followed by a 1.4 litre TSI engine which produces 125 PS and has economy of 55 mpg and emissions of 120g/km.
VW Golf Match Edition with the 1.6 litre BlueMotion TDI
The most frugal car is the VW Golf Match Edition with the 1.6 litre BlueMotion TDI unit which should return 72-74 mpg, depending on whether the manual or the seven speed auto gearbox is used.
The VW Golf Match already has a decent spec that includes front fog lights, front and rear parking sensors as well as automatically folding door mirrors and puddle lights.
The new Match Editions come with smart alloys, a 6.5 inch colour touchscreen for the infotainment system and a satnav system that has live traffic updates and preloaded European maps.
Other standard kit includes adaptive cruise control, city emergency braking, pre-crash protection and driver alert system.
There’s also automatic wipers, dusk sensor and an automatically dimming rearview mirror. As with all Golfs, the new models have seven airbags, ABS, an automatic post-collision braking system, Bluetooth connectivity and an eight-speaker sound system.

VW really have boosted the equipment to help shift vehicles since there’s also stop-start, battery regeneration and air con and lots of other features.
There’s also an optional list which includes a rear view camera, dynamic chassis control, keyless entry and a panoramic sunroof.
While the VW Golf is one of the best cars available the new Match Edition models offers everything that is great about the car but with a lot more equipment to help make it an attractive proposal.
