The much anticipated new Vauxhall Astra is now in the motoring world’s showrooms with an all-round impressive offering.
Prices for the Astra start at £15,295 OTR and along with new engines there’s also some new tech on offer too.
After making its global debut in Frankfurt, the Vauxhall Astra will be hoping to build on its reputation and being a highly regarded household name in the UK.
Indeed, it’s been a huge success for Vauxhall having sold more than 3 million units over 36 years and around 50,000 in the past year alone to help generate around 12% of all C-segment sales and take on the likes of the VW Golf and the Ford Focus.
Vauxhall say that one in four British motorists have either driven or owned an Astra to help make it one of the bestselling and best loved cars ever made.
New Vauxhall Astra is built in the UK
The new Vauxhall Astra is built in the UK – at their Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire – and has a lightweight vehicle architecture. It’s around 200 kg lighter than the model it replaces and every single item in it has been checked to be weight efficient.
Even the chassis is 50 kg lighter and has been made with high strength steels.
However, most drivers interested in the new Vauxhall Astra will want to know about the new powertrains which include an all-new 1.4 litre Esotec direct injection turbo engine which produces 150 PS and a 1.6litre CDTi Whisper Diesel unit.
Vauxhall says the Astra will appeal to a wide range of customers with around two in three of all new Astras being company cars or leased or on personal contract hire.

All owners will also get to enjoy new technology such as the firm’s OnStar connectivity system which incorporates stolen vehicle recovery alert and the ability to notify emergency services when needed.
The Vauxhall Astra is also among the first to get Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay as part of its infotainment system.
As part of its publicity drive, and to underline its UK-made credentials, Vauxhall have also made a fun video of the Astra being formed into the Union flag.
