The new Toyota Avensis is about to reach our showrooms and the prices and specifications have just been unveiled.

Toyota also say there’s a new grade structure across the entire range with higher equipment specified for it.

Standard features include the firm’s ‘Safety Sense’ package which includes pre-collision system and an autonomous emergency braking system.

There’s also a new 1.6litre and 2.0litre diesel units and a 1.8litre petrol engine.

The Toyota Avensis and Touring Sports wagon will contribute to be built in the UK and will cost from £17,765 with deliveries starting at the end of June.

The car, which made its debut in March at the Geneva motor show, is available to order now.

New cabin for the Toyota Avensis

Buyers will find that the cabin has been entirely reworked and there’s been a modest overhaul of its exterior styling.

The Excel is still the top trim while the Active is the entry point. The new trims include a Business Edition and Business Edition Plus.

Standard kit for the Active includes cruise control, Bluetooth connectivity, pre-crash safety system, air con and an auto dimming rearview mirror.

There’s also a daytime running lights, a six speaker audio system and powered windows.

The Business version adds a satnav and touchscreen multimedia systems, DAB radio, rain sensing wipers, reversing camera, auto air con, dusk sensing headlights and 17 inch alloy wheels.

Extra safety kit includes lane departure warning, automatic high beam and road sign assist.

Opt for the Business Edition Plus and owners will enjoy leather upholstery, privacy glass and LED headlights.

The Excel offers more sophisticated satnav system with extra connected services, a 10 speaker audio system, electrically adjustable front seats and cornering headlights.

The Excel Plus comes with a panoramic roof.

There are also a variety of option packs available including a reasonably priced protection pack which comes with scuff plates, bumper protector, boot liner and mud flaps.

The new engines provide excellent economy: the 1.6 diesel unit will return 69mpg with CO emissions of 108g/km while the 2.0 litre engine will return 63mpg and has 119g/km in CO2 emissions.

The 1.8litre Valvematic petrol unit is a decent performer with emissions of 138g/km and fuel economy of 47mpg.

Prices rise to £28,440 for the Toyota Avensis Excel Touring Sports.
