This is the impressive new VW Golf R-Line which will be hitting our streets from March and it’s a model that sits above the firm’s popular GT.
For the money, the new R-Line will cost £24,190 OTR and buyers can expect a new sport suspension that has been lowered by 10mm and a host of extra kit.
Indeed, if the VW Golf R-Line isn’t striking enough, buyers can also splash out another £995 and add ‘sporty design cues’.
VW Golf R-Line will impress
Standard features include side skirts, bespoke air intakes, R-Line rear spoiler and bumpers. There’s also a diffuser and 17inch alloy wheels.
Step inside and the sporty theme continues with stainless steel pedals, sports design front seats, black roof lining and an R-Line multifunction leather sports steering wheel.
There are two engine options – one diesel and one petrol.
Opt for the petrol model and VW will add its 1.4 litre TSI unit which has active cylinder technology which essentially means that two of the four cylinders can be turned off to boost fuel economy.
Performance for the VW Golf R-Line
This means that owners can enjoy economy of 60mpg on the combined cycle – quite impressive for an engine that will deliver 150PS.
This VW Golf R-Line will go from 0 to 62 mph in 8.3 seconds with a top speed of 134 mph.
Opt for the diesel engine and it will come with VW’s 2.0litre TDI which has the same 150PS power output but this unit will return around 69mpg on the combined cycle.
The VW Golf R-Line continues the firm’s tradition of offering a sporty car with excellent levels of handling and lots of kit.

The price quoted above is for the three door VW Golf R-Line with a 1.4 litre TSI engine and three doors and a six speed manual gearbox. Its fuel economy will be 60mpg and its CO2 emissions are 109g/km.
There are various other versions up to the 2.0 litre TDI, five door version of the VW Golf R-Line which has a six speed automatic gearbox and 150PS which will deliver around 62 mpg and has CO2 emissions of 119g/km. It will cost buyers £26,765 OTR.
Essentially, the VW Golf is one of the best cars currently in production today and the R-Line really is the cherry on a very tasty cake.
