Business motorists are being urged to check their speed and to take into account worsening weather conditions as winter sets in.
AA Business Services has put together some simple tips to help company car drivers prepare for travel following the end of British Summer Time (BST).
According to the motoring organisation, motorists should plan their route in advance, ensuring they have allocated enough time to reach their destination.
They should also get up at least 10 minutes early to give themselves time to fully prepare and carry a series of essential items that can help in the event of a breakdown or adverse weather conditions. These include ice scraper, de-icer, torch, first-aid kit, towrope, blankets, warm coat and boots and jump leads.
All motorists should put safety before punctuality when the bad weather closes in - drivers must accept the inevitability of being late for work if they are caught up in an unexpected delay.
AA Business Services head of risk management, Paul Holmes, explained that effective planning for the onset of the darker evenings is absolutely crucial - yet far too often overlooked by time-pressed business drivers.
Planning journeys in advance, investigating alternative methods of transport and checking traffic reports for accident blackspots and road closures can all help business drivers reach their destinations as quickly and safely as possible in the darker conditions.
