Company car drivers and fleet managers in Wales are to be targeted as part of a campaign to highlight the dangers of work-related speeding.
The initiative by the Mid and South Wales Safety Camera Partnership aims to give both employers and employees information about why they should stick to the speed limit and the consequences if they don’t.
Over the next few weeks, fleet managers in the region will be receiving an information pack that includes leaflets and a fleet vehicle journey log sheet.
It also includes a Know Your Limits poster that carries information about the different speed limits that apply to different types of vehicle on certain roads – a subject often overlooked by drivers.
Also included are two stories told from both an employer’s point of view and that of an employee, showing the consequences of speeding and being caught.
Jim Moore, manager of Mid and South Wales Safety Camera Partnership, says that a high percentage of accidents involve drivers of company vehicles and, each year, 65% of all corporately-driven vehicles in the UK are involved in a crash.
He added that the best way to get the message across to company drivers is by supporting and educating them about safer driving habits, rather than through enforcement.
