Speeding ticket most common fine for fleet

Speeding is costing business drivers twice as much money than all other motoring offences combined - according to the latest research.

A recent survey of the 55,000-strong fleet by a major finance company found that the majority of fines collected over the past year resulted from drivers breaking the speed limit.

Other common offences included avoiding the congestion charge and the accumulation of parking fines yet these indiscretions only totalled around half the number of speeding tickets.

The managing director of the company admitted that the figures may not be entirely representative of what is happening on UK roads but he believes that the sample size is big enough to provide a good general picture of the fines being paid by company car drivers and their employers.

He said it is the company’s belief that there is clearly a hard core of company car drivers who are habitually exceeding the speed limit and this recklessness places themselves and other road users in danger and fleets should take action.

London appears to be the most common place for fleet drivers to pick up penalties and the drivers in the study received more fines from Congestion Charging London than from any of the other top ten issuing authorities put together.
