The VXR8 is a muscle car worthy of the name with its awesome power coming from a 6.2 litre V8 petrol engine which provides its incredible performance. This bold-looking car offers a fun drive and lots of comfort to enjoy the immense power the engine creates - it will reach 0 to 62mph in 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 155mph. The bottom line is that Vauxhall has created an impressive car that has personality and great handling abilities.
The impressive V8 delivers 425bhp which is delivered to the rear tyres using a limited slip differential and this helps create a sterling performance from a standing start. As you would expect, the economy from a 6.2 litre V8 supercharged engine is not going to be good and the VXR8 will only return 18.5 mpg while having CO2 emissions of 363g/km. Opt for the automatic gearbox and those figures are slightly worse. When compared to its rivals, the comfort levels in the VXR8 are much better though the engine can appear to be rather loud at times and it's a great cruiser at speed on a motorway. The car also offers more space than many of its rivals and there's enough room on board for five tall adults which makes the VXR8 unusual in that there's plenty of headroom and comfort. The boot is also the size would find in a family saloon.
Some may worry about the handling on a car such as this but the handling is excellent with accurate steering that gives good feedback from the road. Safety is also important and there's a very large set of brakes to control the VXR8's power which come into use when the car is put through its paces on winding country roads. There are air vents in the bonnet to help keep the big engine cool and the most recent revamp saw various tweaks made to the exterior which included new front and rear bumpers, a new grille and a new diffuser. Handling has also been improved with the introduction of new magnetic dampers and there's a crazed suspension as well.
Opt for the manual gearbox, and the VXR8 comes with launch control though for many owners the automatic gearbox is smooth and will offer a good ride. There's also quite a lot of equipment fitted as standard including cruise and climate control, traction control, six airbags and alloy wheels. The driver can also switch off safety aids such as traction control and the stability system with the flick of a switch. Essentially, the VXR8 is a thunderous car with lots of personality and it's a great choice for someone wanting supercar performance on a budget. With the addition of lots of space and comfort, the VXR8 offers a lots of car for the money.
