The Fiat Scudo is one of the better people carriers because it has more space than most and offers practical solution - but there's no hiding the fact that it looks like a van with windows. This will undoubtedly put people off which is a shame since the vehicle seats nine adults in comfort and has decent performance. Powered by the 2.0 litre MultiJet diesel engine, the Scudo Combi will do everything anyone looking for a vehicle of this size will do. There's a choice of two different power outputs and both versions will return around 40mpg on the combined cycle and have CO2 emissions of 185g/km. Their top speed is 106 mph.
Unlike many of its rivals, removing the seats is not so easy but the vehicle is a practical choice for anyone with a large family or for anyone who needs lots of space for a variety of reasons. In the six seat configuration, the boot is extremely large and even with nine seats in place there’s still plenty of space. The sliding rear doors are also extremely helpful tight parking spots. There's a variety of models to choose from: the Scudo Combi which Fiat says is designed with style and comfort in mind but with the practicality of a light van. There's also the Panorama which is designed with families in mind and comes with a range of equipment. It's also well upholstered and is a very effective MPV to own. Among the equipment levels for this model are automatic climate control, alloy wheels and passenger and side airbags.
The Scudo Style is the top of the range model which Fiat says is designed to be modern looking and dynamic; it has some slight exterior design differences to the other two models also offers great performance. It would be easy to say that the Scudo handles too much like a van but there's no doubt that it is a great performer in towns and out on the motorways where the engines are responsive and agile. With so much space on board, the comfort levels are very high and the Scudo will do everything expected of it.
Why not have a look at the Scudo on the official Fiat UK company web site and get the latest news about the Scudo in the UK at The UK Fiat Owners' Club. You may also like to see what they're saying about it on the Top Gear web site.
To help with its own road performance, Fiat have added a self-levelling pneumatic suspension so no matter how much weight is on board, the vehicle itself will be level which will improve the vehicle ride and handling. There's even a nifty switch to help raise or lower the vehicle manually by adjusting the suspension. The Scudo is a big people carrier that will do everything expected of it – and more. It’s practical and spacious with a lot of character to make driving such a large vehicle quite enjoyable.
