Helping to shake-up a keenly fought segment of the car market is a new generation of the Hyundai i20 which boasts high equipment levels and keen pricing.

The Hyundai i20 will need to be good to take on the likes of the excellent Ford Fiesta and the Mazda2, as well as the Skoda Fabia, and hopes are high that it will do just that.

Arriving in showrooms next spring, the new car is available to order now with prices starting at £10,695.

Hyundai have introduced elegant lines and refinement in what is a sophisticated redesign of a popular car.

Hyundai i20 has lots of kit

The firm is also boasting that it has several first in-class features including a full panoramic sunroof among its equipment.

However, CO2 emissions begin at 84g/km for the engines, the lowest in this segment.

The Hyundai i20 has been designed, engineered and built in Europe to deliver a sophisticated and impressive car to a demanding market.

Standard kit includes electric and tinted windows, remote locking and an RDS radio while other models boast air con, stop and go and low rolling resistance tyres to boost economy.

Hyundai i20 is economic and stylish

The most popular model is likely to be the Hyundai i20 SE version which has Bluetooth connectivity, 16 inch alloy wheels, cruise control, reversing sensors and a lane departure warning system.

Under the bonnet of this model will be a choice of 1.2litre 84PS petrol engine or a 1.4litre 100PS version. Hyundai is also offering the SE with a 1.1 litre diesel unit with 75PS or 1.4 litre variant with 90PS.

However, others who decide that the Premium model is for them will find more high-end features such as automatic headlights and wipers, smart phone docking station, automatic dimming rear view mirror and climate control. There’s also cornering lights and privacy glass among the kit list.

The range topping version is the Hyundai i20 Premium SE which boasts heated front seats and steering wheel, parking sensors and the opening panoramic glass sunroof.

A lot of thought and good ideas have gone into the i20 to help make it a realistic contender against the likes of the Ford Fiesta and there are also lots of safety features on-board including electronic stability control, six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring and hill start assist.
