This is the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and it’s an important new vehicle for this carmaker with predictions that most of the buyers will be new to BMW.

It’s also the first time that the carmaker steps into the front wheel drive and three cylinder engine model options for potential buyers.

The Active Tourer combines style and elegance and has lots of very clever design ideas on board.

Economy and performance for the BMW 2 Series

Underneath the bonnet are new lightweight turbocharged engines with three or four cylinders in addition to arrange of the firm’s EfficientDynamics to help boost economy.

This means that the new vehicle should return around 58mpg while having CO2 emissions of 115g/km.

Opt for the diesel variant, and this is likely to be most popular choice for the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, and owners will see fuel economy of 69mpg and emissions of 109g/km.

Those are very impressive economy figures considering the size of the car but it’s also no slouch and the three cylinder engine will take the vehicle from 0 to 62 mph in 9.2 seconds.

Equipment and spec for the new BMW 2 Series

The engines are coupled to a six speed manual gearbox as standard and there’s an automatic six speed gearbox available as an option.

Surprisingly, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is just a tad longer than the BMW 1 Series and yet there’s plenty of room on board for five adults.

There’s also a big load carrying ability which measures around 470litres which expands to a more impressive 1,510litres of boot space when the rear seats are folded flat.

As one would expect from a new BMW, there’s plenty of kit fitted as standard including rear parking sensors, dual zone climate control and an automatic tailgate.

Essentially, the car may not be the most practical or cheapest in the segment but it certainly has a premium feel and delivers an excellent driving experience. It’s a great choice as a family vehicle.

The new car goes on sale at the end of September with prices starting at around £23,000 OTR.
