Prices rise to £124,715 for the S 63 AMG Coupe which has an impressive engine that will produce 585hp and 900Nm of torque.

However, the real performance is to be found in the S 65 AMG which will have 630hp and up to 1,000Nm of torque which should result in blistering performance.

Mercedes S Class has power and refinement

Anyone wanting the cheaper version will have to wait until next year when the S 500 Coupe AMG Line will be available.

As potential buyers would expect, the models not only have incredible levels of performance but the equipment levels are impressive too.

Standard kit includes a panoramic roof, active parking assist with a reversing camera and a clever magic vision control system. There’s also a large 12.3″ touchscreen on board to control everything and there are nine metallic paint options.

Mercedes S Class is sheer luxury in an unbeatable package

The S 63 has a seat comfort package and high-performance speakers help to provide a surround sound system that is hard to beat.

In addition, the S 65 has a heads-up display which sees the car’s vital data being displayed on the windscreen, a 360° camera and a TV channel.

There’s also night view assist which utilises an infrared camera to detect hazards in the road ahead.

For those who buy the cheapest model, there’s the option of a premium package, which costs nearly £5,000, which will add illuminated door sills, alloy wheels, the sound system, climatised seats (to help keep the occupants warm in the cold or cool in the heat) and an air system that removes pollutants and pumps perfume into the cabin instead.

Indeed, there are other packages for all the other models, none of them are particularly cheap, but they help to personalise what is an already an impressive vehicle.

In addition to being one of the quietest production cars currently being made, the equipment levels help to make the new Mercedes S Class an impressive all-round refined and comfortable car to own and drive.
