And we’re back. After the summer break, the F1 circus returns at the iconic high-speed Spa in Belgium. As always at Spa, you have to keep your eyes on the weather, and this was no exception with dry conditions in FP1 and 2, rain in FP3, wet qualifying, and a dry race expected.

As with every Grand Prix this year, you can enter our FVL F1 Podium Winners Competition to win £50 of vouchers if you correctly guess the podium. Click here to enter by adding your prediction – full terms and conditions here.

Qualifying Results at the Belgian Grand Prix

Wet conditions allowed the backrunners to mix things up a little, with Hulkenberg, normally a great performer in the wet, unable to get out of Q3, and Jules Bianchi performing well to get his Marussia into Q2.

The results in Q2 were more predictable, with both cars from Mercedes, Ferraris, McLarens, Red Bulls and Williams battling it out. Mercedes were in a class of their own, ending up almost 2 seconds faster per lap than the closest of their competitor, the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel doing well after missing out on FP2 entirely after needing an engine change.

Alonso gained 4th in his Ferrari, which had shown good pace in all of the practice sessions, and Ricciardo might have gained P3 had he not gone off the track on his last qualifying lap.

So for the main race, with dry conditions forecast, it looks like it’ll be a battle again between Hamilton and Rosberg for the pole, with the rest of the field doing their best to reach the third place on the podium. Williams are expected to perform well if it’s dry, with the setup of their car working well on this high-speed track. But the weather is always a factor in Belgium, able to change rapidly and unexpectedly.
