The Formula 1 circus moves to Canada this weekend – and this is a track where straight line speed is the key, with mainly long straights and slow corners. So no surprise to see that Mercedes dominated practice sessions, and Williams showed more strongly, as did Red Bull.

As with every Grand Prix this year, you can enter our FVL F1 Podium Winners Competition to win £50 of vouchers if you correctly guess the podium. Click here to enter by adding your prediction – full terms and conditions here.

There were no huge surprises in qualifying overall, although Force India were probably disappointed not to make it into the top ten for Q3.

Nico Rosberg just edged out Lewis Hamilton to Pole, with Hamilton locking up his wheels on his last flying lap, putting him off line and losing time. Sebastian Vettel, who seems to be happier with the car underneath him, managed to beat his team-mate and put the car on the second row in P3.

The strength of the Williams was evident from their P4 and P5 positions – and with the way these cars are performing and getting their tyres working effectively, they could have a good chance to make the podium if their strategy plays out. But as with most of the races this season, it’s a question of who can follow Mercedes to the flag, unless there’s an accident or mechanical issue for the silver arrows team.

Sunday’s weather is forecast to be sunny and warm, please get your competition entries in by 6pm BST.
